"I work in illustration, tattoo, photography and video. I cheat on sleeplessness by daydreaming and reading a lot - and when I’m not creating some art, when I still have some precious time off, I'm gallivanting on the world's rooftops.
That’s how I come across the place where I shot these mermaids. On a friend’s attic, by chance, we found access to a rooftop, we played around with a window, and I loved the results. Afterwards I’ve been able to set up a little ritual for this photo-serie. Getting into the building (bypassing, clearly, because I memorized the door code), climbing up discreetly the old wooden attic stair, opening the panel door, getting on the rooftop, setting myself down in the attic… And taking pictures, hoping no neighbours would notice what was going on.

It did felt like I was on a boat, or a submarine, and these pod of magical aquatic creatures were hanging around on the other side of the window, one by one, curious, wanting to get in, or to lure us away into their ethereal kingdom. It felt like we were both stuck in our own silent worlds, cause we couldn’t hear each other. Not the easiest to give directions, therefore these pictures were a sum of happy accidents and semi-directed shots. I wanted them to be focused on hair and hands, a constant obsession through my works, and a good symbol for mermaids. I’ve been lucky to convince so many friends and models to climb up the roof for this editorial."
